About this newsletter

This newsletter has been started primarily to make updates about my first big public art project, The Flower Streets Murals in Kirkdale, Liverpool. Since this is the biggest project I have ever undertaken, it makes sense to write a newsletter. It will keep my interested friends, supporters, customers, students, family informed while I crack on with the work, and it will also help me to reflect on this wonderful project and the things I learn, a bit like a diary.

This newsletter is for you if…

  • you love the beauty of the natural world - flowers, trees, landscapes, gardens etc - and its power to improve our mood, our relationships and our appreciation of life

  • you love art and all things creative

  • you are curious about how painting on buildings can improve neighbourhoods and have a positive impact on public life

  • you have met me at any point and want to keep track of what I’m doing artistically

  • you care about your local community and want to learn more about how creative sessions can be used to bring people together

  • If you don’t do Facebook, Instagram, and get fed up with apps, don’t worry! You won’t miss anything because every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your email inbox.

About Madeleine Pires

I’ve been drawing and painting since childhood. Since completing a degree in Fine Art and Visual Culture in 2003, I have developed a body of work inspired by nature and resonance, alongside teaching English and art, and raising a family. I have lived in many places and had many adventures.

(This is me at my happiest, on the banks of the River Spey near my old school, immersed in all things green, fresh and wild.)

In 2018 I decided to take my art career to the next level by becoming an artist member of dot-art, founded by Lucy Byrne as an arts organisation in Liverpool. Dot-art’s mission is to “enrich people’s lives with art”, supporting visual artists and championing creativity as an integral part of daily life. I have been exhibiting and teaching art courses in collaboration with dot-art for 4 years. Lucy Byrne is the project manager of the Kirkdale Flower Streets murals project, with me as the artist, with support from Liverpool City Council and Culture Liverpool.
